[Sushi chain restaurant in London] Wasabi

Even though I live in England and enjoy local food, I still miss Japanese food.

Among Japanese foods, sashimi and sushi are difficult to find in supermarkets… (In the UK, there are fewer types of fish available in supermarkets than in Japan.)

This time, we would like to introduce Wasabi, a Japanese/East Asian style fast food chain restaurant based in London, UK, along with photos!

Food chain store “Wasabi”

“Wasabi” is a British-based fast food chain with a Japanese/East Asian style that mainly sells sushi and bento boxes.

It is mainly located in London, UK and New York, USA.

It was founded in London in 2003 by Korean entrepreneur Dong Hyun Kim. Kim moved to the UK in 1999 and worked as a fresh produce wholesaler in Camden. Later in 2003, he established “Wasabi”. We opened our first store in Embankment, London.

The company has been steadily expanding its business, with a total of 61 stores around the world. In addition to “Wasabi,” I also run a Korean restaurant called “Kimchee,” and I also run and start a fast food restaurant.

Wasabi, where you can buy sushi just like shopping at a convenience store at a reasonable price, has become popular in the UK, where healthy food is popular.

It was a fast-food restaurant with a modern Japanese-style interior, and the first individually wrapped sushi restaurant in the UK, which must have seemed like a novelty to Londoners.

I bought some sushi

I bought some sushi at “Wasabi”!

I haven’t eaten nigiri sushi for a long time since I started living in London…I’m excited to eat nigiri sushi after a long time (*’▽’)

I found a simple and cute illustration of Tekkamaki. Is this the logo? Below the logo, there is also the word “wasabi” written in hiragana.

The interior has a modern Japanese atmosphere.

Since this is fast food sushi, pre-made sushi is displayed in the refrigerated space. The size of the store is similar to that of a convenience store.

Mini Tokyo Salmon Set

I think it was around 4.8 £ (about 750 yen).

A set of 3 salmon nigiri sushi and 6 salmon and avocado rolls with fish roe surrounding them. I don’t know which part is Tokyo (;’∀’)

The beautiful orange color of the salmon and fish roe, and the green color of the avocado. The colors are beautiful.

There are not many types of fish available in the UK, but salmon is very delicious. Compared to Japan, shrimp, squid, and octopus are more expensive, and the quality is “meh (;’∀’)”, but when it comes to salmon, I have no complaints about both price and quality!

Some people say, “It’s all about salmon sushi!”, but considering that it’s an inexpensive and delicious sushi topping, perhaps it can’t be helped…

It also comes with soy sauce and wasabi.

There’s also a small plastic container inside, and you put soy sauce and wasabi in there and eat it. That’s what he said.

It is designed so that you can eat it right away anywhere.

Salmon Hosomaki Set

I think it was around 6 £ (approximately 540 yen). Contains 10 pieces.

I thought it was tekka roll, but it was salmon. Salmon is cheaper than tuna…

As you can see from the beautiful “sashi” in the salmon, it is full of fat and melts in your mouth.

Our products are not just sushi.

Lunch boxes are also sold as “Hot Bento.” Of the 14 types of bento, 11 are curry and rice (;’∀’)

Japanese-style curry seems to be popular in London, and you can see it on restaurant menus everywhere under the name “Katsu Curry.” Some of them even proudly call themselves “Katsu Curry” even if they don’t have cutlet on the topping lol.

summary

In the UK, 7% of the population is vegetarian. Of course, we also have vegan and vegetarian sushi!

The sushi rolls only contain vegetables, but they are colorful and delicious.

Considering the price of sushi you can buy in Japan, it seems quite expensive, but considering that eating out in London is expensive, I think it’s reasonably priced.

Eating sushi at a restaurant is even more expensive (;’∀’)

I ate 10 omakase nigiri rolls at a Japanese restaurant and it cost me 17 £ (about 2,500 yen).

Even if you want to make sushi at home, there are only a limited number of stores where you can buy fish of a quality that can be eaten raw. (When I asked if I could eat it raw in the fish section of my local supermarket, the answer was a resounding “No!!”)

For that reason, I personally think that the sushi at Wasabi is reasonably priced.

If you live in the UK and miss sushi, please try the sushi at Wasabi!

Thank you for reading this far.
